Ichome Torimatsu
一鳥目とり松
If you’ve had plenty of yakitori but craving delicious chicken, Ichome Torimatsu offers a scrumptious alternative—chicken yakiniku. Instead of the popular beef, the restaurant uses premium jidori poultry for a full course of juicy barbecue and seasonal dishes. With attentive staff managing the grilling at every table, you can sit back and enjoy a refined private-dining experience.
Located in the heart of the gourmet Azabu-Juban district, Ichome Torimatsu opened in 2023 as the sister restaurant of Yakiniku Ushimatsu, an excellent beef yakiniku spot in Nishi-Azabu. Here, Chef Takuya Sato, whose culinary journey spans from his Shizuoka roots to his tenure at Andaz Tokyo, is committed to establishing chicken yakiniku as a distinct culinary genre. This cuisine, which is said to have originated in Mie Prefecture, is not yet widely available across Japan.
A departure from casual yakitori bars, the restaurant’s terracotta exterior conveys understated elegance and sophistication. The entrance is marked with the character for “tori,” complemented by an intricate bird motif. Inside, the dining area is divided into smaller booths, each with its own barbecue grill. The state-of-the-art grilling system minimizes smoke and lingering odors, ensuring guests dine in comfort.
CUISINE
A scrumptious alternative—chicken yakiniku
Alternating between yakiniku and seasonal dishes, Ichome Torimatsu’s omakase offers an exploration of Japan's premium chicken varieties, such as Matsukaze Jidori and Kuro Satsuma. From tenders to neck meat, each chicken cut is prepared with specific techniques and grilled carefully to highlight its full flavor.
For the signature barbecue, seasonings enhance the meat’s deep flavors. Finely ground salt is mixed with garlic and black pepper to create a flavorful rub, while the marinade—made with ginger, garlic, Sendai miso, and chili peppers—adds depth and complexity. At every table, skilled staff ensure the chicken is cooked to perfection.
The famous Torimatsu "tied" meatballs are a unique adaptation of classic yakitori meatballs. A blend of minced thigh and breast meat is mixed with cartilage, lotus root, and boiled leeks for added texture. The meatballs are wrapped in duck prosciutto and tied with a piece of green onion, Grilled on a wire rack, they are perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
The chicken seaweed roll resembles a beautiful piece of sushi. It features chicken ham, steamed chicken, yukhoe-flavored chicken prosciutto, pickled radish, shiso leaves, and pickled ginger, creating a complex harmony of flavors. The warm oyakodon is infused with the deep umami of flavorful chicken broth and topped with a marinated quail egg. Every bite is deeply satisfying.
Be sure to save room for the delicious shaved ice from the à la carte menu. Made from a pure block of ice shaved just before serving, it’s drizzled with your choice of sweet toppings, such as lemon, matcha & cream cheese, or the monthly special.

Matsukaze Jidori, a purebred Nagoya Cochin raised in Sanda City in Hyogo Prefecture, is known for its excellent aroma and rich flavor. Kuro Satsuma chicken, raised by Oyama Farm in Kanoya in Kagoshima Prefecture, offers a great texture with an abundance of umami.
